Rimmel lipstick: My (im)modest collection

This post reminds me just why I'm on a lipstick ban.  I was a little surprised (read 'shocked') to see how many Rimmel lipsticks I'd collected (read 'accumulated') over the last year and a bit...

This is what happens when I discover an inexpensive good thing - I indulge in it to excess.  I was introduced to Rimmel lipsticks by my neighbour (older, wiser and wealthier than me!) when we were out on a shopping date.  She swore by them so I bought a single tube of the red Temptation and it was all downhill from there.  No, not really downhill - my neighbour has put me onto a good thing here because while these lipsticks are less than half the price of Revlon, L'Oreal etc they easily compete in terms of quality.

So here's the detailed inventory:

Lasting Finish
(semi-matte, creamy, highly pigmented)

Shown L - R and swatched in same order:
  • Temptation - Yes this is the red lipstick that started the obsession.  I've posted about this lipstick many times and it's my current favourite red shade.  It's a bold, orangey red and a year-round, day to night colour.
  • Undressed - A warm caramel nude, and another of my favourites.  I chose this as my favourite nude lipstick when I did the Lipstick Tag last year.  I also like wearing it with a matching creme gloss for a more glam look.
  • Asia - Mauve nude with a hint of shimmer.  It's a MLBB shade and part of my basic makeup when I want a no fuss, natural look.
  • Pink Blush - This soft bubblegum pink creme has been widely written about as a dupe for MAC's Viva Glam Gaga.  For me it's a fun shade to wear and pairs equally well with a smokey or pastel eye look.  I have to credit Lilit for making me crave this one and it was one of the last lippies I bought before declaring my lipstick ban.

Moisture Renew
(creamy, moisturising but feels light on lips, highly pigmented)

Shown L - R and swatched in same order:
  • Funtime Fuschia - This is a vibrant blue-toned fuschia.  Another beauty blogger influenced purchase, I bought this when I saw Hannah's post suggesting this was a passable dupe for MAC's Girl About Town.
  • Vintage Pink - Another MLBB shade in the form of a mauve/pink creme.  This dusty colour gives my lips more pigmentation without screaming "Lipstick!"
  • Nude Delight - This warm nude is a shade lighter and leans more yellow than Undressed.  It almost disappears on my lips so it's not the best nude for me personally.

Colour Show Off (top left)
(velvety matte finish, high pigmentation, feels weightless on lips)
Lasting Finish by Kate (middle & bottom right)
(semi-matte, creamy, highly pigmented)

Shown L - R and swatched in same order:
  • Pink Gossip (Colour Show Off) - I like wearing this bright summery pink alone or with a gloss.
  • 05 (By Kate) -  This is a rose pink with a hint of shimmer.  It's bright enough to have impact and comes across as a more sophisticated, work-appropriate shade of pink.
  • 10 (By Kate) -  This is one kicka** red lipstick and is the one Kate Moss wears in the Australian campaign so I had to have it!  It's a very glam blue-based shade and something I save for the cooler months or after dark.

What's your favourite drugstore lipstick?

Until next time.

Vita :)

  4. Wow that's quite a rimmel collection going there, but hey that probably cost you less than say 4 chanel lipsticks so you could do worse! LOL. And I hope you like Pink Blush, it's definitely repurchase material for me!
